DESCRIPTION:Join the DEEP TIME Chicago Walk About It at Northerly Island with Julia Bachrach and Claire Cahan.\nJulia Bachrach is a historian\, preservation planner\, and urban design professional who deeply believes that understanding the past can help us create a better future.\nClaire Cahan is the Studio Gangs Design Director. She leads the design of exhibitions and special initiatives\, working closely with Jeanne Gang to further the Studio’s design approach. Central to her work is the relationship between the built\, urban\, and natural environments. \nNortherly Island transforms a man-made peninsula on Chicago’s lakefront into a 91-acre living ecosystem\, a public park only twenty-first century knowledge could build.\nStudio Gang’s design embraces the island’s artificiality and uses the occasion to construct a topography and landscape that will encourage wildlife to occupy it – over time\, creating an amplified\, biodiverse ecology whose various habitats and architectural features offer people multiple ways to engage directly with nature without leaving the city. \n
